Helen Karanika
Drawing, Monotype, Painting

"I have been studying and practicing painting and drawing for over 15 years. My training in art comes largely from formal classes and intense personal study - but, most of all, trial and error (mostly the latter)! I experiment with different media and I like to explore the materiality and expressive quality of each. Apart from working on canvas and panel, I love the texture and history of handmade papers - particularly Japanese washi. I am particularly interested in the juncture of figuration and abstraction, and in making layered paintings that reveal the various stages of their creation. I am constantly working to develop my personal visual language, enjoying every moment of the process!”
